Day 9: Little Rock, AK 7/9/15

We were supposed to head to Memphis but we got on the road super early and weren't able to check into the campground until 6pm so we decided to keep on driving.  This is the only shot of Memphis we got from the road:

Yeah, that's a giant pyramid Bass Pro Shops.. You can even go to the top and look out on the balcony (we saw ppl out there...).  We got to Little Rock around lunch time and went down to the River Market.  

It was again like a Quincy Market/Nashville Farmer's Market but not NEARLY as big or nice.  We got vegetarian pulled pork and a veggie quesadilla and hung out underneath the picnic area.  People down south are so brazen with the dogs.  They'll just go right up to your dog without asking and try and pet and play.  I ALWAYS ask if I can pet your dog.  It's common courtesy and I like having all of my fingers.  Our dogs were getting sick and tired of it too.  Hmph.  End of rant. 

We did meet a nice family from Naples, Florida who were up for a Tae Kwon Do competition and the 3 kids LOVED the dogs.  They were telling us the kids are home schooled so they take off whenever they want.  So cool!  

I had forgotten Bill Clinton was from Little Rock, but the town wouldn't let you forget it!  Pres. Clinton St., Clinton Museum, Clinton School of Public Service, etc etc.  

Callie decided it was too hot to walk around anymore.

 We walked around for a bit but it was HOT again (like 97*) so we headed for the Maumelle campground in Pinnacle State Park.  It really wasn't too far and we stopped by Whole Foods to pick up some food along the way.  I LOVED Maumelle.  Our campsite was RIGHT on the Arkansas River.

How GORGEOUS was this sunrise?? It was so hot that we slept without the tent "roof" on.  

It really was a nice campground.  There were definitely some bugs but not the monsters that were at Great Smoky and could be controlled with a citronella candle.  The bathrooms were VERY clean and there were free showers too.  Most people had campers and RVs to escape the heat which I could definitely see.  You could not spend all day there at the campsite without some reprieve.  I spent a nice hour hanging in hammock reading by book "Second Chance Dog" while Jeremy cooked dinner :)  Pretty awesome
